Morse code is a method of transmitting text using sequences of short and long signals, commonly known as dots and dashes. It remains one of the most recognizable communication systems in the world because it is compact, durable, and easy to transmit through sound, light, or radio pulses.
Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail developed the code in the 1830s and 1840s to work with the telegraph. Their system made long distance messaging dramatically faster and shaped modern telecommunications.
